AYURVEDA HEALTH TIPS FOR SUMMER SEASON
The importance of maintaining one’s health cannot be underestimated. Health is one of the most important aspects of living and a decline in health would reflect in every other area of our daily routines.
The time of the year can also be significant in overall health if used properly to our advantage. This is evident from the health benefits that summer provides. The relatively large amount of sunlight in summer provides vitamin D. In addition, the increased temperatures increase water and fruit consumption, two important elements of overall health.
However, the health benefits of summer are not necessarily enough to maintain top health all season long. Ayurveda methods are also highly essential to health and well-being in the summer. As much are there are health benefits of summer, there also some negative effects of the heat. Various Ayurveda techniques can be used to curb these effects and keep cool all season.
AYURVEDA TIPS FOR A HEALTHY SUMMER
- Drink plenty of water: One of the simplest ways to keep cool in the summer heat is to consume plenty of water to make up for the moisture lost through heat. It is helpful to start mornings with a cup of water and continue the water intake through the course of the day. Regular water consumption regulates our Pitta dosha and hence prevents overheating in the body.
- Stay moisturised: It is also important to prevent skin burn by properly moisturising the skin, especially when going outdoors. Coconut oil, castor oil and aloe vera help keep the skin cool and moisturised. In the event that sunburn has already occurred, aloe vera can be applied to the burns to cool and heal them.
- Aromatherapy: Aromatherapy is one of the many ayurvedic methods for overall health. The benefits of this therapy are evident in maintaining health in the heat of the summer. This practice involves applying sandalwood oil to the face, chest and the belly. The aroma helps relieve stress and raise the aura of the body.
DIET AND LIFESTYLE FOR A HEALTHY SUMMER
Apart from the consumption of water, it is also important to take fruits, milk, lemonade, and vegetables. This is due to the cooling effect that these foods provide. It is also essential to avoid alcohol and peppery foods as they contribute more to the heating process of the body. It is also equally helpful to go swimming, go for walks and visit outdoor recreation centres. Another important method to stay healthy in summer is to meditate. The summer heat can be stressing so once in a while it would be helpful to perform some meditation techniques such as Surya Trataka. Summer comes with beautiful weather and high spirits. Hence, it is important to keep healthy and maintain a healthy lifestyle all through the season to keep a high spirit, and a healthy mind.
